Lebanon returns to its favourite club less than 24 hours after street fighting swamped Beirut

Those crazy Beirutis are at it again. One night there are piles of tyres set ablaze on the street, airports closed and bursts of gunfire coursing through Hamra Street; the very next, everyone is dancing until 4am in the club that was, 24-hours earlier, surrounded by snipers. Ah, contradictions rarely come as chic as this.

Of course, everyone in Lebanon is well-rehearsed in the art of bullet-dodging when there’s a night out to be had. No sooner had the parliament relented to Hezbollah’s key demands and the fighting factions withdrawn to whichever prehistoric cave they emerged from, than the shirts were being ironed, the hair gelled, the aftershave applied and the cab to White promptly booked.

The first night of partying after the lockdown was organised by Matisse, a new three-girl event company.

Matisse is hosting three more events for White Beirut in June, July and August.
