There comes a time in every man’s life when Geox shoes begin to make complete sense. Like converting the pool room into a nursery. Or trading the two-seater convertible for the six-person SUV and incredible mileage. And although the Italian footwear brand have a reputation akin to that of Volvo – safe, slightly conventional and rarely enjoyed by the under-30s – they are now managing to drag the hideously unsexy adjective “breathable” into the realm of the fashion conscious.

Helping them to achieve this is a new store in Dubai Mall, which looks more like Urban Outfitters retro-fitted for New York Fashion Week. And there are enough new lines for Summer 2009 to banish all thoughts of premature middle age should you stroll in. And, if we’re being honest, anything that stops your feet turning into the Gulf of Aqaba after a short stroll down Souq Jara ought to be thoroughly encouraged.
