Burberry goes bohemian
Alongside the aquarium and ice rink, the newly opened Dubai Mall also welcomed Burberry’s new 600 square-metre flagship store – the first store in Dubai to showcase the latest Burberry Prorsum menswear collection. For inspiration, creative director Christopher Bailey apparently imagined the late artist/filmmaker Derek Jarman in his garden at Dungeness, a bleak stretch of English seaside perched next to a nuclear reactor. The results are melancholy prints and sombre colours that run from moss to stone, bark, and pewter.
Bailey called his collection “crumpled classics”, and the collection includes cable knit sweaters, scoop-neck tops and slim trousers. Bailey didn’t propose any shorts, as he expects the Burberry Prorsum gent to wear trousers even while on the deck of a yacht. And considering the hair-to-skin ratio on yacht owners in our region, this can only be a good thing.
