Crouching Puma, hidden sportswear
The newest collection from Alexander McQueen and Puma hides performance clothes behind polished looks
Issue: Jan, 2010
Founded in what they claim to be a union of tradition and technology – by which we think they mean old school kit with modern-day prices – Alexander McQueen and Puma’s latest collaboration is a sports collection that makes use of extra fine cotton, calfskin and even the occasional taffeta. All of this makes for contemporary sportswear with a thankfully understated tone of sophistication, perfect for late nights at Fitness First.
Continuing with their “power” theme, which last fall used boxing as its main sport, the seasonal subject for Spring/Summer 2010 is martial arts, reflected in the collection’s asymmetric kimonos, strapping overlays and dense stitching details. This influence continues in the colour palette, with strong accents of primary red, blue and yellow set against a black and white base, so you’ll never walk into a gym again feeling like anything less than a butch – if maybe overdressed – man.
