Gentleman’s relish

Bally’s 2010 Spring/Summer collection gives us something

The new spring/summer line from Bally might not be appearing in Amman for a few months yet, but we liked the range of shoes, accessories and clothes so much – and, frankly, we’re longing for the warmth in which to wear them – that we thought we’d bring a little sunshine to your chilled faces. The theme is, as you can no doubt tell, the gentleman’s club, which was encapsulated in New York Men’s Fashion Week where the collection was unveiled amid a wood-pannelled interior. Of course, we were far more concerned with the state of the sneakers than the quality of the caviar in the reception, and were pleasantly surprised by the functionality of the suede jackets and stylish cotton trousers.

According to designer Brian Atwood, the collection was inspired by “candid photos I found of Peter Beard and David Hockney”, which may explain the hat and the glasses. But that shouldn’t put off the red-blooded heterosexual from slipping into the Sweifieh store to pick up a pair of shoes, or indeed some of the weekend-getaway luggage. We definitely approve – or at least we will when they arrive in 2010.
