Island life
Mediterranean island gets the nod from ski aficionados for 2010
Issue: Nov, 2009
The island of clubber’s paradise Aya Napa, package holidays and extremely cheap booze has another side that is beginning to attract more discerning tourists. The word on every skier and snowboarder’s lips right now is Cyprus, which combines great snow, great value and a host of après ski. Mount Olympus guarantees the altitude – and therefore snow – and the resort of Troodos has the hotels, bars and access to the mighty 500m Zeus piste, the highest on the island.
The Jubilee Hotel might only be a modest two-star lodging, but it is the highest in Cyprus and, as a result, the closest to the slopes – and at around $60 a night, the best value. Expect lots of boarders here starting January.
