It’s all Akademik

Well, their brand is called Akademiks, but with a designer who likes to remove all the vowels when he writes his name, then capitalise the remaining letters, the new Fall denim collection from the line is actually the work of AKDMKS – and it represents a 10th year of collaboration with BMX bike company Big Bulldog Bikes. And the results, if not the spelling, are once again outstanding. 

 

With a highly textured, faded wash and precise tailoring for that season-satisfying skinny-fit look, the jeans come in three main colours– Dark Wash, Light Wash, and Medium Wash. The firm basically was launched on the back of a sponsorship with Big Bikes, whose founder Jimmy “Mac” McNeal broke the mould of BMX design by creating a more urban, less white suburban brand. And although you don’t have to nip around Culture Street on a five-spoke to enjoy them, it might help.
