Monochrome set
The new Burberry Prorsum Menswear range seems to have taken a cue from Anton Corbijn’s film Control – the intense biopic of new wave icon Ian Curtis and his band Joy Division. It has not only been revealed almost exclusively in black and white, but it is actually modelled by Sam Riley, the young British actor who played Curtis in the aforementioned movie.
Burberry’s creative director, Christopher Bailey, cites another northern English legend, painter LS Lowry, he of matchstick men and dogs and 1890s’ factories. “The collection is nostalgic with rich elegant textures, effortless silhouettes and faded sombre hues,” he says.
Colours include: Prussian blue, ink, oxblood, moss green, cigar, charcoal and sour green.
Fabrics include: Irregular dyed knits, silk jersey rib knits, crinkle bonded cottons, wool cashmere tweeds, tonal Prince of Wales checks, military wool twills and wool mohair.
