A 30-minute jog at 5.30 am around the back streets of Shmeisani or on lifeless cardio machines is hardly the best way to start your day and is certainly not in the ranking for the best idea ever. But with around JD50,000 in prizes, our deputy editor hopes that it will all be worth it.

Preparations for the first Amman International Marathon (October 17th, 2009) is not limited to our deputy editor however. The organising committee has finalised its necessary arrangements to assure that the international event held under the supervision of the International Association of Athletics Federation and the Jordanian Athletic Federation is on par with such regional events like the Beirut Marathon and even international ones like the Boston Marathon.

Despite a few days of slacking – come on, jogging every day gets boring on the third day, no? – our deputy editor is at least expecting to finish the race. After all, this is the 10k run we are talking about, so he will not be suffering multiple cramps and bloody nipples trying to catch up with European senior citizens running the whole 42.129km.
