Sofia so good

Tied to a pole or relaxing on pink bedding, Sofia Marikh manages to make both acts just as alluring

Where some haters may argue that NOX 22 cover girl Sofia Marikh is just a pretty face who charmed her way to a Star Academy title and the subsequent 15 minutes of fame that comes with it, we tend to disagree – she has great legs too.
Sofia’s assets were on full display during the shooting of her latest music video “Es’alni Ana”  (Ask Me), where she plays a girl – what else? – falling in love.

Sofia’s hoping her new video, shot in a 1980s Beirut hotel room – commonly known as a cheap motel with extra services for $20 an hour – will generate as much attention as the preceding one “Ba’hibi fek” (I Love In You), where she appeared tied up to a pole, S&M style.

The Moroccan singer admits she is sometimes sceptical when a director has an eccentric concept for a video (say, being strapped to a lighting rig), but she always gives the idea a chance – as long as it doesn’t alienate the audience nor cross any boundaries.  “My videos should reflect the person I am without appearing like an imposter,” she said.

“Esa’lni Ana” will mark Sofia’s third music video – a scarce videography collection considering that she first popped on the main stage in 2003. “I don’t like to deal with my work as if it is a production factory. I enjoy singing, preparing for a video and shooting it. I take my time and I seek directors who offer good ideas,” explained the singer.

But we’re hoping to see more and more of Sofia with the release of every video. After all, it’s not easy to survive in the crowded female Arab “artist” market – and we can’t be more delighted about that development of events.
