V for deluxe

Vertu’s latest design from its Constellation series – and the company’s first flip phone – is most certainly not a mobile for the masses

This is certainly not an everyman phone. It’s possibly a one-in-every-thousand-man phone, but we doubt it. The new Vertu Constellation Ayxta is a top-of-the-line mobile in every sense of the word, with a laser drilled and back-illuminated keypad, 2.4" HVGA display and GPS navigation with preloaded maps. There is also the small matter of the phone having its own soundtrack, which would have been beyond pretentious had it not been Zero 7 singing the tune...

As the first flip phone from the company, the Constellation Ayxta maintains the collection’s theme of travel and offers “superior lifestyle support”, or its Worldmate travel application as we like to call it, which comes in very handy if you need a software to organise your life. Which we obviously do. There’s also the City Brief, a sort of travelling companion that gives restaurant recommendations, shopping suggestions and cultural etiquette tips (eg, when in the presence of an American president, refrain from hurling your shoe at him/her).

To continue about the phone, though, the Vertu V shape is accented with clean lines and subtle details, and is carefully crafted with high-quality materials, such as ceramic and leather, a sapphire crystal screen and a stainless steel frame with aerospace grade aluminium parts. And comes in a really, really big box, so you know just how expensive it is...
