Dubai, a mirage of an oasis
With all the news that keeps popping up about Dubai financial status, looks like the end is near for this young city – or maybe it's the end of a very short beginning.
50 years ago, Dubai nearly existed on the map, with less than 30,000 people considered as the whole population, it wasn't even considered as a city. But by using loads, and loads of money, and marketing the idea of realising impossible dreams, Dubai was built.
In the 1990's Dubai became the place to work in – if you were among the many people who wanted to strike gold in a short time. They literally turned a desert land in to an oasis that every one desired to hold a share in its success. In a short period of time, it became the land of wonders; it got really close to be in parallel with the western cities. But sadly, along came the depression.
The finical crisis didn't really create a problem for Dubai, all it did is accelerate the process of revealing the flaws in the poor planning of the people in control in selling what they don't have.
Many experts say that this would be a good opportunity to Jordan to draw all the investments. But I’m wondering if Dubai was just a first in a line, and maybe we’re headed to the same fate, especially that we only provide services and no products, as the same as Dubai.
What do you have to say?
